One Freaky Fellow (Day Fourteen Luke 7:14–15 NET )

14 Then he came up and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 So the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. (Luke 7:14–15 NET )

While I find it extremely cool that Jesus can do amazing things like bring people back from the dead, I have to consider how I might have felt witnessing such a thing in person.  To be honest I would have been a bit freaked out over something like this happening right before my eyes.  Of course I would have rejoiced with the others had this been my loved one, but really a person who was dead sitting up and talking, that is just a bit freaky.  Jesus touched the bier, which was the stretcher that dead bodies where carried on to their tombs.  He did not even touch the body itself, he just reached out and touched the bier the man was laying on, then he said get up and the dead guy sat up and began to speak.  Clearly Jesus was right when he said in Matthew 19:26 that nothing was impossible for God.  So I ask the question, what is dead in your life?  Is it your faith, your prayer time, your relationship with a spouse or child?  Perhaps it’s your passion for the Bible, or desire to work.  Maybe your appetite for life itself has died and you wonder why you are still here.  Jesus can do some real freaky stuff, so I would encourage you to seek him out and see if he might touch your situation in the same way he touched this bier and bring you back to life as well.  Our savior is the source of life and I am certain he can and will breathe it back into your situation if you ask him to.

One Response to One Freaky Fellow (Day Fourteen Luke 7:14–15 NET )

  1. Royce Hart says:

Talking about Jesus “in the flesh” – walking among the people, healing the sick, casting out demons, etc., makes it seem like His power and authority were irrefutable. But a lot of folks doubted. How is it that anyone could miss His message?

Andrew Wommack talked about this when he described watching Johnny Cash’s movie, “The Gospel Road.” Wommack said the movie was “hard on his religion” because, in one scene, Jesus took a tumble down a hill where his cloak flew up and his, um, humanity was exposed… But he also said the movie helped him realize what a major stumbling block the disciples had because they lived with Jesus’ humanity. It’s not hard to imagine that the disciples could smell Jesus sweat. They saw him hunger, thirst, make trips to relieve himself… everything we do. And the people from his hometown watched him grow up, probably building furniture in his dad’s shop. It’d be like the neighbor boy, that carpenter’s kid with splinters in his hands, suddenly announcing to the world that he IS God incarnate. Here is Johnny Cash’s take on that scene:
